Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong stirred up debate online following remarks he made about infidelity in marriage during an interview with media personality Ife Agoro.
In the discussion, Daniel expressed the view that a betrayed spouse’s initial reaction to a cheating partner should not be anger or hurt, but rather a desire to offer help and support.
He believes cheating should first be understood as a personal struggle the offending partner is going through, and that addressing the relationship damage should come after.
He used the phrase “How can I help you?” to describe what he thinks should be the betrayed partner’s first response when their spouse makes such a mistake.
When Ife Agoro challenged him on why the person who was wronged should be the one extending help, Daniel maintained that the cheating partner is essentially in a troubled state and needs assistance before both partners can begin the healing process together.
He further argued that dwelling on personal pain alone would not resolve the situation, and referenced the idea that genuine love does not prioritize self-interest.
However, Ife Agoro repeatedly disagreed with his stance, making clear that she felt it was wrong to place the emotional needs of the person who cheated above the very real pain experienced by the partner who was betrayed.
