Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has formally declared his intention to contest the presidency on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Amaechi disclosed on Thursday that he had submitted his presidential nomination forms at the ADC secretariat ahead of the next general election.
The former minister said his ambition was driven by a desire to restore dignity to Nigerians and address the country’s economic and social challenges.
Amaechi said, “Today, I submitted my Presidential nomination forms at the ADC Secretariat, officially throwing my hat in the ring to salvage our country, Nigeria.
“The mission is clear, we will fight to restore dignity to Nigerians, make our country great and respected in the comity of nations, and bring unity, peace, prosperity and progress to our people.”
Amaechi, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had contested the APC presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 elections before his political realignment.
With his declaration, the former governor is expected to contest the ADC presidential primary alongside former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and other aspirants.
The ADC has recently attracted opposition politicians and other political actors seeking an alternative platform outside the country’s major political parties.
