The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Alex Otti’s assertion that his administration has constructed 414 roads across the state since assuming office in 2023.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC described the claim as “highly deceptive.”
While acknowledging that the Otti administration has undertaken some road rehabilitation works, the party criticised the projects for being executed at “outrageously inflated costs.”
“We strongly reject the false, exaggerated, and highly deceptive claim that 414 roads have been built under this government.
“After a thorough investigation, it has become obvious that these so-called 414 roads exist only on social media propaganda pages and in media briefings, not in the everyday reality of Abians who traverse the roads daily for business, work, and survival,” Aguoru said.
He argued that a government unable to point to verifiable, groundbreaking infrastructure — as seen in neighbouring states such as Imo, Anambra, and Enugu — has resorted to inflated figures and media manipulation.
He challenged Governor Otti to immediately publish the full list of the alleged 414 roads to allow for independent verification by the people of Abia State.
The APC spokesperson further alleged that beyond patching potholes, asphalting existing roads, closing manholes, and constructing one motor park, the Otti-led administration has little to show for the over N2 trillion it has received in federal allocations.
“Unfortunately, under Alex Otti, governance appears to have become an exercise in public relations, where perception matters more than performance,” he said.
The Abia APC demanded greater transparency and accountability, urging the governor to release comprehensive details of the claimed roads, including their locations, contract sums, and the names of contractors.
“Abians demand transparency. Abians demand empathy. Abians demand good governance. Above all, Abians demand honesty,” Aguoru added.
