2027: Peter Obi’s supporters not scared of Jonathan’s rumoured ambition – Umeh

Victor Umeh

Anambra Central Senator, Victor Umeh, says supporters of the former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, are not scared of rumours that former President Goodluck Jonathan may return to the presidential race in 2027.

Umeh stated this on Thursday during a live appearance in an interview on Trust TV, stressing that Jonathan’s speculated ambition would not weaken Obi’s support base or affect his chances in the next general election.

The chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, stated further that every major political figure had his own base, adding that Obi’s supporters remain committed and have continued to grow since the 2023 presidential election.

“We’re not concerned. Why should we be scared? We cannot be scared. Every individual has his own base and followers. What Obi has now is sufficient to make an impact again in 2027 and win the election,” he said.

According to him, Obi had built a strong political movement that could not be easily displaced by the entrance of another aspirant.

The lawmaker reiterated that Obi had consulted Jonathan several times on his political plans before reports emerged that the former President might be considering a return to the race.

He stressed that Jonathan never told Obi during those consultations that he had plans to contest the 2027 presidential election.
