The senator representing Yobe East, Mustapha Musa, popularly known as Kulas, has withdrawn from the 2027 race and declared support for Governor Mai Mala Buni as his preferred successor in the National Assembly.
Musa announced his withdrawal in a statement, saying he had aligned with the decision of party leaders and the political arrangement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The senator said he would no longer contest for the ticket or seek any other elective position.
He said, “I hereby formally withdraw from the contest for the ticket.”
Musa also directed his supporters to stop circulating campaign materials promoting him for any elective office.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Musa congratulated a former Secretary to the Yobe State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, who has emerged as the preferred governorship candidate of the party leadership.
He wished Wali and all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates success in the upcoming elections.
The senator, who was earlier eyeing the governorship ticket, expressed gratitude to Buni and the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam, for what he described as their “mentorship and sustained support.”
He said their support shaped his political journey, from his early roles as Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Scholarship Board to commissioner and, later, senator.
