The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it will still participate in the 2027 general elections even with ongoing court cases affecting the party’s leadership.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the party’s national chairman, David Mark, gave this assurance after he was briefed by the party’s lawyers on a recent judgment from the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He told party members that the legal issues would not stop the party from appearing on the ballot in all elections.
The former Senate president explained that the party is fully prepared for the court matters and believes it will come out successful in all the cases. He added that the party will follow the law in handling every step of the dispute and will not back down in the legal process.
Mark also said he is confident in the party’s chances and will stay active in guiding the process, even though he is not a lawyer.
“You do not have anything to be afraid of regarding all the litigations before the party. I want to assure you that we shall triumph in all the cases, and we shall be on the ballot for every election. We are more than prepared and ready for these cases, and we shall do everything within the ambits of the law to surmount every situation.
“In this legal battle, though I am not a lawyer, I will lead from the front, and we shall surely triumph“, he said.
The court had recently barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing or working with the caretaker leadership of the party in relation to state congresses. It also restricted Mark and others linked to the caretaker group from interfering with elected state executives of the party.
Following the ruling, the party’s legal team has begun steps to appeal the decision and also applied for a stay of execution to pause the effects of the judgment while the appeal continues.
