Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has said those who attempted to hijack the party have been shown the way out.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Kachikwu, speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, reacted to the judgment that barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising any congresses conducted by the David Mark-led leadership.
Describing the congresses and conventions as kangaroos, Kachikwu said the nullification of the conventions by the Federal High Court in Abuja had vindicated his long-standing warning that some individuals were bent on hijacking the party for selfish interests.
Kachikwu maintained that the party is not for sale, stressing that it would field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
He said, “The ADC is not for sale. Our party will field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
“Those who tried to hijack our party have been shown the way out through the same back door they came in.”
Meanwhile, the founder and pioneer National Chairman of the ADC, Ralph Nwosu, has shed light on the lingering crisis within the party, attributing it to internal sabotage and controversial figures.
Nwosu made the disclosure in an interview with Punch, where he explained the circumstances that led to key decisions within the party.
Speaking on the party’s internal reforms, Nwosu said the ADC had to amend its constitution following what he described as disruptive actions by some members.
He said, “A lot of people will go to the PDP and APC to run, and parties were struggling to get a candidate who could run.
“As a matter of fact, it was when Dumebi came to undermine and deal with our party that we put those clauses that nobody can come after two or three months, and we give the person the ticket to run because you don’t know their motives.”
According to him, the party introduced stricter eligibility rules to prevent opportunistic entrants.
