Woman arraigned for allegedly stealing items worth N14m

A 41-year-old woman, Helen Ugochukwu, on Tuesday, appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged conversion and stealing of property worth N14 million.

The defendant, whose address was not stated, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conversion and stealing

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 19, at about 9:30 a.m. at the Allison Market area of Ikorodu.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant obtained 50 pieces of inverters valued N14 million and a cash sum of N200,000 from a complainant, one Mrs Victoria Owolabi.

The defendant was alleged to have unlawfully converted same to his own use.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant was eventually arrested following police investigations.

The offences contravened the provisions of Section 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr A.O Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the addresses of the sureties must be verified.

The court adjourned the case until April 30, for mention. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
