Mr Nyesom Wike, FCT Minister, has described the China-aid ECOWAS Headquarters in Abuja as a symbol of solidarity, cooperation, and shared regional ambition.

Wike, represented by Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, spoke at the project’s official handover ceremony on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the event went beyond commissioning a structure, calling it “the handover of a vision of partnership, unity, and collective resolve”.

Wike commended the Government of China for its remarkable contribution to regional integration and development across West Africa.

“The project stands as a testament to the enduring value of diplomacy and constructive international engagement.

“This magnificent edifice is not just about concrete, steel, and glass.

“It is a bold statement that cooperation still matters and diplomacy can deliver tangible outcomes,” Wike said.

He highlighted Abuja’s strategic importance, reaffirming its role as Nigeria’s diplomatic hub and natural host for regional and international institutions.

According to him, the ECOWAS Headquarters further strengthens Abuja’s position as a centre for dialogue, cooperation, and African progress.

The minister reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to regional initiatives, noting its role in approvals, coordination, security, and infrastructure support.

“Great institutions deserve worthy homes,” he said, describing ECOWAS as a key expression of West Africa’s shared identity and aspirations.

He urged member states and stakeholders to sustain unity and collaboration in building strong institutions and advancing regional integration. (NAN)
