A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Thursday sentenced a 23-year-old, wheelbarrow pusher , Umar Musa to five years imprisonment for stealing customer’s goods..
The convict, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of breach of trust and misappropriation filed against him by the police.
The Magistrate, Mrs Irene Pati, however gave Musa an option of N100,000 fine for the first count and N50,000 fine. for the second count.
She also ordered him to pay compensation of N920,000 to the complainant.
While reviewing the facts, the prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the complainant, Sileiman Umar reported the case on March 10, at the “ C” Division Police station.
Gokwat said the convict was given 20 cartoons of Maggi seasoning cubes, 19 cartoons of Onga stew seasoning and 10 cartoons of spaghetti all valued at N920,000 to take to the customer’s shop in the market and he absconded with the goods.
The police said that the convict sold the items to one Uzaifa in the same market.
He said the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. NAN
