THE Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Fatai Tijani, has ordered deployment of personnel to approved centres, to monitor the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME across the state.
Tijani made this known in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, by the command’s Spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB had scheduled its UTME nationwide for April 16 until April 25.
According to the commissioner, the security measure was in line with directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu.
The commissioner noted that the deployment was aimed at ensuring comprehensive security coverage as well as a safe, secure and conducive environment for candidates, exam officials and other stakeholders during the exercise.
“Officers deployed for the exercise have been instructed to maintain professionalism, civility and vigilance, while taking firm action against examination malpractice, disorderly conduct or any form of security breach.
“Personnel are to work in synergy with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective security at examination centres, surrounding areas and access routes,” he said.
The police boss also urged candidates, parents, guardians and members of the public, to cooperate with security operatives and adhere strictly to examination guidelines for a smooth and hitch-free exercise.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The commissioner called on residents to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines provided by the command.
