The Media Adviser to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s government of sponsoring the factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafiu Bala.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the remark comes amid the emergence of different factions within the ADC and derecognition of the former Senate President, David Mark’s leadership of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a post on Thursday via 𝕏, Paul Ibe reiterated that there is no faction within the ADC, stressing that Mark remains the party’s National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola the National Secretary.
Atiku’s aide added that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government and the Chairman of INEC, Joash Amupitan, created Bala’s faction to subvert democracy.
He wrote, “There are no factions in the @ADCNig. What you have is the African Democratic Congress led by Sen. David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary. The so-called “faction” of Nafiu Bala is a creation of the Tinubu-led APC government and Amupitan to subvert democracy. The media need to take editorial notice of this.”
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, explained why the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) visited leaders of the ADC after the party’s Occupy INEC protest in Abuja.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Makinde said the visit was to express solidarity with the ADC amid recent developments in the nation’s political space.
The governor spoke with journalists after a meeting between ADC leaders and the PDP faction, which lasted late into the night at the Abuja residence of former Senate President David Mark.
According to him, the visit was informed by recent events, including court actions and the protest staged earlier by the ADC.
