Nigerian reality TV star Vee Iye has criticized celebrities who openly show support for President Bola Tinubu.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that she made the remarks after podcast host Korty questioned the reasons behind celebrities endorsing the government amid the country’s economic and security struggles.
Korty had suggested that many Nigerians are being affected by rising poverty and insecurity, yet some public figures continue to back the administration.
She questioned whether celebrities were benefiting financially from their support, noting that the middle class is increasingly facing hardships.
In response, Vee said that while some celebrities might support the government for personal gain, others truly believe the president is doing well, a view she strongly disagreed with.
She implied that popularity does not guarantee common sense or judgment.
“While some seek to gain from their support, you’d be surprised to find out some of them actually believe he’s doing a good job. Sense doesn’t come with popularity,” she wrote.
Vee’s comments come at a time when public dissatisfaction with the Bola Tinubu-led administration is growing.
Several celebrities have recently spoken out on national issues, especially following violent incidents.
On March 29, suspected gunmen attacked Gari Ya Waye in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, killing more than 20 people and injuring several others.
Prominent figures like Peter Okoye, Ice Prince, Mr Macaroni, and Nathaniel Bassey condemned the violence.
Meanwhile, socialite Cubana Chief Priest said the attack was meant to embarrass President Tinubu on his 74th birthday.
