President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed the decision of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) to adopt Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The move signals growing alignment within the Lagos political leadership ahead of the next election cycle.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Tinubu on Wednesday met with members of the GAC, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Hamzat at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which commenced around 2:30 p.m., brought together top stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
The meeting is widely seen as part of ongoing consultations over the state’s 2027 political succession and internal party alignment.
The development comes amid rising political momentum within the Lagos APC.
The GAC, regarded as the highest decision-making advisory body of the party in Lagos, had earlier endorsed Hamzat as its consensus candidate following internal consultations.
The endorsement is understood to have received the backing of Governor Sanwo-Olu, further consolidating Hamzat’s position as the party’s preferred successor.
The latest move is expected to strengthen internal cohesion within the Lagos APC as the party begins early preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
