Resident warns of looming danger over failed Bayelsa road

A concerned resident has called on the Bayelsa State Government and relevant authorities to urgently repair dangerous potholes along a major road leading to Nembe, warning that the situation poses a serious risk to motorists and residents.

In a viral video shared on X by Chuks Eric on Monday, the man was seen standing inside one of the potholes, describing the extent of the damage and appealing for immediate intervention.

According to him, the pothole is over one metre deep and is one of at least three severe depressions on the stretch of road.

“This is a very big pothole at the centre of the road leading to Nembe City. This place will cause disaster,” he said.

He expressed frustration that despite the visible danger, neither the authorities nor the construction company responsible for the road had taken action, even though they frequently use the route.

“The company that constructed this road passes here every day, yet nothing has been done,” he added.

The resident urged opinion leaders, chiefs, members of the council of chiefs and those overseeing the road project to mount pressure on the contractors to fix the damaged sections.

He warned that the road is heavily used by community members, including children and local leaders, making it a potential hazard.

“Our loved ones, our children and our leaders pass here every day. They need to fix this road before it leads to disaster,” he said.

He further stressed that the affected area is not limited to a single pothole, noting that multiple sections of the road are in poor condition.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the authorities regarding the issue.
