The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has rejected a move by a group linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to take control of its leadership, stating clearly that the party cannot be bought or taken over.
Speaking in Kano on Monday, the chairman of PRP Vanguard, Abdulmajid Yakubu Dauda, said the party remains committed to its founding ideology and will not allow it to be turned into a tool for personal or financial gain.
He warned those making moves toward the party to be careful, saying the PRP is not open to any form of purchase or hidden deal.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Dauda accused certain individuals based in Kaduna, whom he said were never part of the PRP, of trying to take over its structure.
According to him, these individuals are now acting as leaders and inviting members from other troubled political parties, including the ADC, into the PRP without proper process.
He also described the group he called the “Kaduna Mafia” as people who do not represent the values of the PRP. He said they are part of the political elite and do not share the party’s long-standing focus on the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
The PRP Vanguard leader made it clear that the party’s current internal crisis is still before the court and said there is no agreement for reconciliation with any group. He questioned calls for unity ahead of the 2027 elections, asking what kind of unity would ignore the party’s core beliefs and existing structures.
Dauda insisted that the PRP has a long history rooted in the struggles of workers, intellectuals, and ordinary citizens. He said the party was not created to serve wealthy interests or be controlled by a few individuals.
He added that handing over the party to people he described as career politicians and power seekers would go against everything the founders stood for. He also said the group from Kaduna lacks connection with grassroots supporters and only becomes active during election periods in search of support from wealthy sponsors.
