The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.
Yilwatda described the visit as a demonstration of empathy and responsive leadership, coming at a critical time when the state is grappling with grief.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on peace and unity.
He stressed that persistent violence in Plateau State represents a national tragedy that requires more than routine condemnation.
According to him, there is an urgent need for coordinated and result-oriented action involving all stakeholders to prevent further attacks.
Yilwatda urged community leaders to take proactive steps in identifying and reporting suspicious activities, noting that perpetrators often exploit local vulnerabilities.
He further called on security agencies to upgrade their operational strategies by deploying intelligence-driven tools such as AI-powered surveillance systems, drones, and advanced tracking technologies.
The APC chairman also highlighted the economic consequences of insecurity, warning that Plateau’s tourism and agricultural potential remain under threat due to recurring violence.
He advocated a whole-of-society approach involving traditional institutions, religious leaders, and community groups to restore lasting peace.
President Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other stakeholders, also visited affected families, offering condolences and assurances of government support.
Yilwatda noted that the visit underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity and restoring confidence among residents.
