The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports surrounding Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s appeal, describing them as misleading and lacking proper context.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the clarification was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, under the leadership of Abdurahman Mohammed.
The faction insisted that no valid suspension was ever placed on Anyanwu, contrary to reports.
“The party categorically states that these reports are misleading and lack proper context. While it is true that Senator Anyanwu filed an appeal, it is important to clarify that the appeal was not against any suspension,” Mohammed said.
According to the statement, the case initially filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court was meant to challenge the competence and proceedings of the disciplinary committee chaired by Tom Ikimi.
He noted that the committee merely recommended a suspension, which was never ratified by the party’s leadership.
“It must be emphasised that the Tom Ikimi Disciplinary Committee merely recommended a suspension. This recommendation was never considered, adopted, or ratified by either the National Working Committee or the National Executive Committee of the Party,” he stated.
Mohammed stressed that the recommendation carried no legal weight.
“As such, it had no binding effect, and no valid suspension existed at any time,” he added.
He further explained that the committee itself was later discarded after it was found to have been constituted in violation of the party’s constitution.
The faction also clarified that the January 2026 judgment of the FCT High Court did not affirm any suspension.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the judgment of the FCT High Court delivered by Justice Halilu in January 2026 did not affirm any suspension, as that was never the issue before the court,” the statement read.
It added that the suit was dismissed on grounds of lack of jurisdiction, as disciplinary matters are internal party affairs.
The PDP faction disclosed that the appeal filed by Anyanwu would be withdrawn.
“In light of these facts, the appeal, which was inadvertently filed on April 10th, 2026, has now been directed to be immediately withdrawn as it is no longer necessary,” Mohammed said.
The faction maintained that the party’s leadership structure remains valid, citing earlier court judgments.
It noted that a Federal High Court in Ibadan had upheld the composition of the National Caretaker Committee and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise it.
The statement also said the party’s Abuja National Convention held on March 29 and 30, 2026, was conducted with full legal backing and monitored by INEC.
The PDP urged members and the public to ignore reports suggesting otherwise. The party described such claims as “misleading distortions of facts intended to cause confusion.”
