A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has rejected claims from opposition parties, saying their internal troubles are caused by their own actions and not by the ruling party.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he spoke during a nationwide media chat organised by the APC, where he made it clear that it is not the duty of his party to step into the affairs of opposition groups or help them avoid crises.
The former APC National chairman said it would not make sense for any political party to create a system just to monitor and manage the problems of other parties. According to him, each party must take full responsibility for handling its own issues.
He explained that although the APC can give advice when needed, it cannot take over the role of fixing disputes within opposition parties. He maintained that such responsibility lies with the parties involved.
“You cannot expect us, as a political party, to set up a department to manage opposition political parties so they don’t run into crisis.
“We are ready to offer help to political parties to resolve crises, but it is not our job to manage them,” he stated.
Addressing complaints about funding, the former Edo State governor dismissed the idea that opposition parties are struggling because they do not have the same level of resources as the APC. He said access to funds is not limited to the ruling party alone.
