The National Rescue Movement has said it will not join or merge with any political party ahead of the 2027 general election, stating that it plans to present its own presidential candidate.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the party made its position known on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, during a press briefing in Abuja, where its National Chairman, Chinedu Obi, addressed journalists on its plans for the next election cycle.
He said the party is preparing to produce a strong presidential contender who can challenge the current administration in 2027, adding that it is focused on building its internal strength rather than forming alliances.
Obi also spoke on the party’s internal issues, explaining that a ruling by the Federal High Court has settled the dispute involving a faction linked to Edozie Njoku. The case was dismissed on Tuesday by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, bringing an end to the legal battle within the party.
Following the court decision, he said the party no longer has internal divisions and is now united. He added that unlike some opposition parties facing challenges, the NRM is stable and ready for political activities ahead of the elections.
The chairman also noted that the party is open to supporting capable aspirants who wish to contest for different positions in the 2027 elections, insisting that it is ready to play a major role in the country’s political space.
He maintained that claims of crisis within the party are not true and described the NRM as one of the parties ready to take part in shaping Nigeria’s future leadership.
