President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Dr. Salamatu Hussaina Suleiman and 14 others as Chairman and members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, seeking legislative approval for the proposed appointments.
If confirmed, Suleiman, a seasoned human rights advocate and former Executive Secretary of the NHRC, will assume leadership of the Commission as Chairman. The 14 other nominees are to serve as members of the Commission’s governing board.
The move is aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of the NHRC in promoting and safeguarding human rights across Nigeria.
The Senate is expected to consider the nominations in the coming days as part of its constitutional role in confirming presidential appointments.
