THE Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has urged students to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ogbuku made the call during the launch of Project New Nigeria in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, according to a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the commission’s spokesperson, Mrs Seledi Thompson-Wakama.
Represented by NDDC’s Director of Social Services, Mr Jeremiah Oritsejolone, Ogbuku commended the ongoing voter registration sensitisation across the state.
“The Nigerian youths are the heartbeat of the new Nigeria we seek. Their voice will determine the direction our nation takes.
“For their voice to be heard, they must collect their PVC to influence decisions, shape governance, and demand accountability,” he said.
He urged students in higher institutions to register and collect their PVCs in preparation for future elections.
Ogbuku noted that the commission had sustained transformation and capacity-building programmes across the Niger Delta region.
“NDDC will continue to support initiatives that promote civic participation and empower youths,” he added.
Earlier, the Convener of the Project New Nigeria, Mr Samuel Okani, said the initiative was aimed at strengthening democratic values.
“We are engaging universities to sensitise students on the importance of voter registration and participation in elections,” Okani said.
He expressed optimism that the programme would be sustained to deepen democratic culture among young people. (NAN)
