Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing the need to put to rest lingering speculation about his membership status.
Mimiko conveyed his decision in a letter to the party chairman in Ward 7, Ondo West Local Government Area, on Thursday, stating that his resignation took effect from April 10, 2026.
“I am tendering my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” he wrote.
The former governor, who held office from 2009 to 2016, said his prolonged absence from party activities had fuelled questions he felt obliged to address publicly.
“Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position. As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP,” he said.
Mimiko, however, stressed that the move was devoid of ill feeling toward anyone in the party.
The former governor has largely kept away from active partisan politics in recent years, making his formal exit more a confirmation of an already evident reality than a surprise departure.
