The Abia State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a local vigilante member accused of killing his girlfriend and attacking two others in Amakama, Ubakala, in Umuahia South Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the suspect, identified as Chinedu Anamelechi, allegedly opened fire on his girlfriend, Ezinne Ariwodo, killing her instantly before stabbing her sister and shooting another young man in the community.

The incident was reported after a distress call alerted police operatives, who swiftly moved to the scene and found the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds.

Chinaka confirmed that the injured sister and the other victim were quickly rescued and taken to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The deceased was confirmed dead by medical personnel and her body has been deposited in a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

She added that exhibits were recovered from the scene for forensic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.

Normalcy has since been restored in the area, while the police urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The command said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
