The Lagos State Police Command has opened an investigation into disturbing allegations that a doctor at a Lagos hospital hid one of a set of twins following delivery.
The command confirmed the probe via its official X account, @LagosPoliceNG, on Wednesday, acknowledging awareness of a viral video circulating on social media in connection with the incident.
In a statement, the command disclosed that relevant professional bodies and associations had been engaged and were collaborating with investigators to determine the full circumstances of the case. The Area Commander of Area M was said to be personally supervising the investigation, with findings to be made public upon conclusion.
The public was urged to remain calm, with assurances that the matter was firmly in hand.
The controversy traces back to a video posted on X by user @AsakyGRM on Wednesday, which quickly spread across social media platforms. In the footage, a visibly distraught woman clutching her newborn confronts a doctor, demanding to know the whereabouts of her second child. The clip raised immediate fears of possible baby trafficking.
The woman maintained that multiple medical scans conducted during her pregnancy had confirmed she was expecting twins — yet only one baby was handed to her after delivery.
“Produce my second baby. This is not good enough. I did not come to this hospital to be robbed of my baby,” she cried out in the video.
The incident is said to have taken place at a hospital in the Abaranje area of Ikotun, Lagos.
