Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an 18-year-old suspect, identified as Dogara John, for allegedly vandalising reflective road safety installations on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The arrest was made on April 6, 2026, at about 17:30 hours, after the suspect was reportedly caught removing reflective road studs installed on the bridge to enhance visibility and guide motorists, particularly at night and during poor weather conditions.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of 20 of the reflective studs in the suspect’s possession.
The police said the installations are critical safety devices that help improve lane discipline and reduce accidents along the busy corridor.
“These road studs play a vital role in helping drivers stay on course and in preventing accidents, particularly on a busy route like the Third Mainland Bridge,” the statement said.
The Lagos State Police Command condemned the act, describing vandalism of public infrastructure as dangerous and capable of endangering lives and disrupting safety systems.
Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and destruction of public assets, warning that offenders would be prosecuted.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to security agencies.
The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
