The Labour Party is weighing legal action against its former National Chairman, Julius Abure, over claims that he is still using the party’s logo and social media platforms without approval.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the development became known in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, as the party’s National Working Committee under Nenadi Usman expressed concern over activities linked to the former leadership.
Party officials are unhappy that some social media accounts believed to be under the control of the former executives are still active.
One of such accounts on 𝕏, identified as @LabourpartyNGR_, is said to be presenting itself as an official channel of the party and sharing information that does not reflect its position.
Tension rose after a post surfaced on the platform suggesting that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso were preparing to contest elections again under the party. The current leadership dismissed the claim, saying it did not come from the party and should be ignored.
A media aide to the chairman, Ken Asogwa, disclosed that the party has already contacted the Nigeria Police Force to help recover its verified 𝕏 account, known as LabourPartyNG, which is believed to still be in the hands of the former leadership.
He added that the issue is being handled by the Force Intelligence Department, with those involved, including Abure and Umar Farouk, said to be cooperating by providing details about their actions, including the continued use of the party’s online platforms.
Other accounts under dispute include a Facebook page named Labour Party-Nig with about 12,000 followers and the 𝕏 account LabourPartyNG with a much larger following.
The party noted that it has released several public notices to warn members and the public about the situation. It said it had to repeat the warning after the recent online post caused confusion.
For now, the party stated that it does not operate any active social media account as it continues efforts to regain control of its official platforms.
