Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have suffered a legal setback in their ongoing dispute with Ray J after a judge refused to keep details of a secret settlement out of the public eye.

According to court documents, a Los Angeles judge denied Kardashian and Jenner’s request to seal records tied to a confidential 2023 agreement involving Ray J and the long-running controversy surrounding the pair’s infamous sex tape. The ruling means the agreement, which all parties had attempted to keep private, could now become part of the public record.

In the filing, Kardashian and Jenner argued that the documents contained “highly sensitive matters” and said the agreement had been created “to protect their families from public disclosure and respect these sensitive matters.”

They asked the court to keep the material sealed, arguing that releasing it would expose private information.

The judge disagreed, ruling that the pair failed to show enough evidence that making the records public would cause harm.

The latest dispute began in 2025, when Kardashian and Jenner sued Ray J for defamation after he allegedly claimed they were under federal investigation. Ray J accused them of being “sex traffickers”, a claim they deny. He also maintains that Jenner was the mastermind behind the now-infamous sex tape.

Ray J denied wrongdoing and filed a countersuit. In his filing, he claimed Kardashian and Jenner broke the terms of their private 2023 agreement by discussing the sex tape during an episode of their Hulu series, The Kardashians.

Ray J has also alleged he received $6 million as part of the settlement in exchange for staying silent about the tape. Kardashian and Jenner have not publicly confirmed that claim.
