Former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has opened up on why he left the All Progressives Congress, saying the situation within the party pushed him to make a change.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that he spoke during an interview on Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Akinbaloye, where he reflected on his time in the ruling party and what led to his decision to move on.
Melaye explained that the atmosphere in the party became unsafe and no longer matched his beliefs. According to him, the political space around him at the time became difficult to cope with, forcing him to step away in order to protect himself and rethink his direction.
He compared his decision to a personal transformation, saying it was like a major turning point in his life and political journey. He made it clear that leaving the party was not a quick decision but one he took after careful thought about his future.
He said, “I was operating in a satanic milieu. I was operating in dangerous environment and I had to leave, I had to change just like Saul on his way to Damascus became Paul.”
The former lawmaker, known for often speaking against government actions and political structures, said he needed to reposition himself and find a path that better suited his goals.
