Nigerian rapper Dremo has opened up on his struggles with recognition in the music industry, saying many people do not fully see his talent.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the artiste in an interview on Echo Room, shared that he often feels overlooked despite his efforts and ability in the studio.
He said he has accepted being seen as an underdog, even though he believes he has more to offer than what people notice.
Speaking further, Dremo linked this situation to the kind of music he makes.
According to him, rap music does not get as much attention from Nigerian listeners compared to more popular sounds like Afrobeats and pop, which may have affected how he is rated.
He also spoke about his time with Davido Music Worldwide, where he was once signed.
Dremo said the experience did not turn out the way he had hoped before he eventually left the label.
The rapper explained that most of the attention within the label was placed on its founder, Davido, leaving other artistes with less focus and support.
“I feel like I am so underrated. People don’t know what I can do in the studio. But it is okay, I like the underdog story. I feel like I am so underrated. Dem no rate me at all.
“Even DMW as a whole didn’t collaborated much, we never had a record label album. The management focused only on Davido.
“The label [DMW] didn’t give me money. It was like a platform. I didn’t get what I wanted from the label,” he said.
