Hassan Muhammad Danjuma, a member of the House of Representatives representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, has died.

Danjuma, a first-time lawmaker elected in 2023, died in the early hours of Saturday, according to a statement by a media aide to former Kano State governor and NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The cause of death had not been disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

First elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Danjuma had recently defected to the African Democratic Congress, where he maintained a close political alliance with Kwankwaso.

He was among a group of Kano federal lawmakers who declined to follow Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in defecting to the All Progressives Congress, choosing instead to remain in the opposition.

Sources said the lawmaker was in good health as recently as Tuesday, when he attended a political meeting at Kwankwaso’s residence in Abuja. The gathering was focused on preparations for the forthcoming ADC state congress, expected to produce members of the party’s state executive committee.

His death adds to a growing toll of losses within Kano’s political circle. In December last year, the state lost two members of the House of Assembly, Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu, who reportedly died within hours of each other.

Tributes have begun to pour in from political associates and constituents.
