Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked communities in Plateau State, killing two people and injuring two others, including a woman shot in Heipang community, opposite Plateau State Polytechnic.

Reports indicate that the attack occurred in Ban community, Heipang, around 11 p.m., when the assailants stormed the area and opened sporadic fire on residents.

Three individuals were struck by bullets and rushed to the hospital for treatment. One of them, a woman, later died from her injuries, while the two others survived with gunshot wounds.

The shooting caused panic among students of Plateau State Polytechnic, particularly those living off-campus.

Nanchip Dube, a student of the polytechnic, said the sound of gunfire threw the campus community into confusion.

“The sounds of gunshots created panic amongst students,” Dube said.

In a separate incident earlier in Riyom Local Government Area, a 27-year-old man, Amos Monday, a resident of Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was killed after gunmen ambushed a group of youths between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village at about 8:15 p.m.

Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), confirmed both incidents to journalists in Jos.

He urged residents of Kwi, Wereng, and neighbouring communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi, and Riyom to remain vigilant.
