Armed terrorists have killed three youths during a midnight attack on Pwomol Village in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the victims were reportedly members of a vigilante group keeping watch over the community when the attackers struck.
The attack occurred around midnight, with the assailants reportedly targeting vigilante youths guarding the village.
Sources who spoke with Vanguard said one other resident sustained serious injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The assault is said to be the second attack on the community within one week, heightening fears among residents of renewed violence in the area.
Confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, said security operatives later arrested a suspected attacker.
According to him, the suspect was apprehended around 1:00 a.m. near the Redemption Camp area between Heipang and Kassa.
Tengwong said the suspect was found with blood stains on his body and has since been taken into custody by security personnel.
He added that the suspect is currently being held by security operatives at Sector 4 in Barkin Ladi.
Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, led by its National President, Dalyop Mwantiri, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.
The association urged security agencies to ensure that the arrested suspect is brought to justice.
It also called on authorities to interrogate the suspect to uncover the identities of other perpetrators involved in the attack.
The group commended the swift response of the Special Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, and encouraged residents to remain vigilant.
Residents were also urged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
“The Berom Youth Moulders-Association remains committed to the protection of lives and the pursuit of justice for victims of violent attacks across Berom land and beyond,” the group said.
