MANSUR Abdullahi, former Technical Adviser of Sokoto United, has joined the Nigerian football community to mourn ex-international, Michael Eneramo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eneramo reportedly collapsed and died during a friendly match in Kaduna on Friday.
According to a statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the former striker suffered cardiac arrest shortly after the restart of the match.
NFF said Eneramo had featured throughout the first half before the incident occurred five minutes into the second half.
Abdullahi described the late striker as prolific during his playing days, noting his impact in the national team.
He recalled Eneramo’s goal against Tunisia in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Abuja.
“He came on as a substitute and scored, though the match later ended 2-2,” Abdullahi said.
He said Eneramo’s strength, work rate and eye for goal made him a valuable attacking option.
Abdullahi added that the player’s professionalism inspired younger footballers and reflected his commitment to the national team.
He noted that Eneramo rejected an opportunity to play for Tunisia in order to represent Nigeria.
Abdullahi said the late striker’s contributions to Nigerian football would always be remembered.
NAN reports that Eneramo made 10 appearances for Nigeria in his international career.
He was nicknamed “The Tank” during his time at Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he won several trophies.
The forward also played for clubs in Turkey, including Sivasspor, Beşiktaş and İstanbul Başakşehir.
Eneramo made his debut for Nigeria in 2009 and scored his first international goal against Ireland. (NAN)
