Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has faulted the legal processes in handling the case involving former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai.
This comes after the Kaduna State High Court postponed the hearing of El-Rufai’s bail request to the first week of June 2026.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Sowore, in a post shared on his official page on Tuesday, raised concerns over what he termed ‘lawfare’ being deployed against El-Rufai, stressing that legal procedures should not be used as a tool for intimidation.
Sowore called on the courts to uphold the rule of law by granting bail where necessary and ensuring fair trials for all individuals.
According to the human rights activist, using bail conditions as a means of caging Nigerians is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable.
Sowore added that such practices should be rejected, regardless of who is involved, emphasising the need for fairness in the application of the law.
He wrote, “I will never support the LAWFARE being waged against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. @elrufai
“Let the courts uphold the rule of law by granting him bail and ensuring he receives a fair trial. Bail is a constitutional right, not a tool for punishment or intimidation.
“Using bail as a means of caging Nigerians is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable. It is a practice we must all reject, regardless of who is involved.”
