THE ECOWAS Commission, through its Social Affairs Division, organized an Information and Advocacy Workshop on the ECOWAS Programme for the Provision of Assistive Devices to Children with Disabilities in Dakar, Senegal, on 24 April 2026, following its implementation in Banjul, The Gambia.
The opening session featured Mr Mountaga Ba, Secretary General of the Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity of Senegal, representing Maïmouna Dièye, Minister of Family, Social Action and Solidarity, alongside Fernando Jorge Alves D’Almada, Principal Programme Officer for Social Affairs at the ECOWAS Commission, Moussa Thiaré, President of the Senegalese Federation of Associations of Persons with Disabilities, and Fatou Ndiaye Bâ, Representative of Sightsavers, reflecting strong political commitment and multi-stakeholder engagement.
Convened with the Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity and key stakeholders, the workshop forms part of the programme’s third phase, focusing on aligning national priorities, consolidating needs data and advancing coordinated delivery of assistive technologies.
The outcomes will guide the identification of priority needs and preparation of national requests, as ECOWAS scales up inclusive, people-centred service delivery across Member States.
