The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, has expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its current security and economic challenges, drawing inspiration from the Easter message of resurrection and renewal.
Represented at an Easter programme organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the CDS said the resurrection of Jesus Christ symbolises hope, resilience, and the triumph of light over darkness.
He said: “Even in the darkest moments, divine grace can transform suffering into victory and despair into new beginnings.”
The defence chief noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain steadfast in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, combating terrorism, insurgency, and other forms of criminality across the nation.
According to him, the sacrifices of military personnel have led to the restoration of peace in several communities, allowing socio-economic activities to gradually return.
He also highlighted the strategic role of the media in national security, stating that security operations extend beyond the battlefield to the information space.
“Accurate, responsible, and ethical reporting strengthens national unity, counters misinformation, and builds public trust,” he said.
The CDS described journalists as indispensable partners in peacebuilding and urged them to project verified information and avoid narratives capable of inciting fear or division.
He called on Nigerians to embrace unity, reconciliation, and collective responsibility, noting that national security requires cooperation from all stakeholders.
Oluyede paid tribute to fallen military personnel, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices reflect the essence of Easter.
He assured that the Armed Forces would continue to enhance operational effectiveness and adopt modern strategies to tackle evolving security threats.
