The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has advised motorists in Gombe State against rush driving during the Easter festive period.
Mr Samson Kaura, the state Sector Commander of the corps gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Gombe on Wednesday.
Kaura said that rush driving significantly increased the risk of a crash as well as the severity of impact.
He added that rush driving could lead to speeding, aggressive manoeuvres, and dangerous driving.
He urged all motorists plying roads in the state to prioritise safety over speed to ensure they arrive safely, stressing that their safety and those of their passengers were more important than rushing.
The sector commander added that as part of measures to ensure safety during the period, the command had begun a special patrol that would last till month end.
He explained that the patrol would ensure hitch-free traffic across the state as well as enforce traffic rules while ensuring quick responses during crashes.
”We have deployed 620 personnel comprising regular and special marshals, as well as operational logistics for the 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations which commenced on Wednesday (Today).
”In addition, 10 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and a tow truck have also been deployed to serve the motoring public.
”This was done bearing in mind the kind of heavy traffic that comes with such festive period, so we are acting promptly to ensure safe and smooth travels during the celebrations,” he said.
The sector commander further advised residents who sell their goods close to the road especially in built-up areas to stay away from the highway for their own safety.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
