Former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Esther Usman, has been elected as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
Usman emerged at the party’s 2026 elective national convention held on Tuesday in Umuahia, Abia State, marking a significant leadership transition within the party.
Also elected was former member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency and Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Political Affairs, Acho Obioma, who now serves as the party’s National Secretary.
Obioma replaces Senator Darlington Nwokocha, who previously held the position as Secretary of the Caretaker Committee.
The convention, which drew party stakeholders from across the country, saw all members of the new National Working Committee emerge through a consensus arrangement, reflecting efforts to promote unity and stability within the party.
The emergence of the new leadership is expected to reposition the Labour Party ahead of upcoming political activities and strengthen its organisational structure nationwide.
