A community leader has urged residents of Adara and Kuturmi communities in Kajuru and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State to strengthen internal collaboration and support government’s efforts in tackling insecurity in the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that insecurity had persisted in the areas since 2015, with repeated attacks leading to deaths, abductions and displacement of residents.
Prince Kevin Kufana, a community leader made the call while speaking with newsmen in Kufana, Kajuru Local Government Area.
He noted that although there were signs of progress, including the return of some displaced communities and improved security operations, challenges remained due to alleged internal collaboration with bandits.
Kufana alleged that some residents had acted as informants, aiders and abettors, while others had reportedly joined criminal groups, thereby worsening the situation.
According to him, more than 130 Adara communities were displaced as of May 2023, but the figure had reduced to about 74 by the first quarter of 2026 due to intensified security operations.
He added that some communities had reportedly entered peace agreements with bandits, a development he described as counterproductive to lasting peace.
The community leader stressed that addressing insecurity required joint efforts between government and residents, in line with constitutional provisions on the protection of lives and property.
He called for the convening of a security summit to develop strategies for tackling alleged internal collaboration and enhancing cooperation with security agencies.
Kufana also urged residents to prioritise unity, expose criminal elements within their communities and support ongoing peace initiatives to restore lasting security in the affected areas. (NAN)
