Rakiya Yusuf, Director, Payment System Supervision Department of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has pledged support for Nigeria’s bid to host the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yusuf made the pledge during a courtesy visit by Lami Ahmed, President, Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, and her team on Tuesday in Abuja.
Yusuf, who expressed appreciation for her surprise award and appointment as an AACT Ambassador, said she would support Nigeria’s aspiration to host the continental championship.
“I am honoured by this recognition and accept the ambassadorial role with responsibility to support Nigeria’s dream of hosting the championship successfully,” she said.
Yusuf also reaffirmed the apex bank’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders, adding that efforts would be made to facilitate LGAN’s planned visit to the CBN Governor.
“The Governor is a strong advocate of collaboration, reflected in strides recorded in monetary policy, ease of doing business and payment systems within two years,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf further informed the delegation of the existence of the CBN Golf Association and introduced its captain, Sunkanmi Aroyehun, who was present at the meeting.
Aroyehun commended the recognition, describing Yusuf as a committed member and worthy ambassador.
“LGAN made the right choice. Dr Yusuf has remained a strong pillar in promoting golf and supporting initiatives within the association,” he said.
Earlier, Ahmed said the AACT provided a platform for promoting women’s golf and strengthening Nigeria’s sporting profile across Africa.
She noted that the 2026 edition, scheduled for Nov. 2 to Nov. 7 in Abuja, would attract participants from more than 30 African countries.
“The tournament will boost tourism, inspire youth participation and enhance global recognition of Nigeria’s golf ecosystem.
“Yusuf’s recognition was based on her consistent support for women’s development and contributions to ladies’ golf.
“We honour you as an AACT Ambassador because you believe in the Nigerian project and can help us tell our story to the world,” she said.
She urged Yusuf to partner with LGAN in mobilising support to ensure successful hosting of the AACT and the National Open Championship in November 2026. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
