THE Lagos State Government says it will automate pilgrimage registration, seeking faster services, improved efficiency and the removal of challenges linked to manual processing.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr Ibrahim Layode, announced the initiative on Friday during a briefing marking Gov. Babajide Sanwo Olu’s seventh anniversary.

Layode said digital registration would simplify procedures, reduce delays and provide intending pilgrims with easier access to government services.

“Automation will transform registration, improve accountability and remove bottlenecks that once delayed applications,” he said.

He added that preparations for the 2026 pilgrimage would include broader awareness campaigns and stronger engagement with religious stakeholders.

The commissioner said welfare programmes and orientation activities for pilgrims would remain central to the ministry’s operational plans.

He said the ministry would also strengthen media visibility across television, radio and digital platforms.

Local Government and Local Council Development Area tourism officers, he noted, would continue grassroots mobilisation efforts.

On money lending, Layode reported 112 fresh applications and the renewal of 214 operating licences.

He said 15 operators faced sanctions for violating existing regulations guiding lending activities in Lagos.

The ministry also processed 68 immigration applications, while 20 applicants underwent cross examination for naturalisation.

Layode credited Lagos’ religious harmony to regular dialogue with faith leaders through the Nigerian Inter Religious Council. (NAN)
