Nigerian disc jockey and record producer, DJ Neptune, has warned that the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) could soon disrupt the music production industry, predicting that the technology may “retire” producers.
The entertainer made the remark while reacting to a similar concern raised by media personality N6 on social media.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that N6 had earlier taken to 𝕏, formerly Twitter, to express fears about the growing capabilities of AI in music production and mastering.
“AI is quietly about to retire the entire music production and mastering industry. I have seen scary tinz tonight. God help all of us in this ecosystem,” he wrote.
Corroborating the claim, DJ Neptune shared a personal experience that left him stunned after mistaking an AI-generated song for a human-produced track.
“I dey tell you. Someone sent me a record to listen to some days ago and give me my feedback,” he said.
“After listening, I told the guy to sign the artist cos what I heard was out of this world. That’s how my guy said na AI work. E shook me o.”
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that AI is increasingly being adopted across many sectors in the 21st century, including the music industry, with both emerging and established artistes, producers, and sound engineers leveraging AI tools to enhance beats, vocals, and overall sound quality.
The growing use of AI has sparked conversations about its long-term impact on creativity and job security within the industry.
In response to technological advancements, the Recording Academy has updated its rules to allow songs created with AI elements to qualify for the prestigious awards, provided they include significant human input.
