2027: Kwara APC stakeholders petition Tinubu, allege internal crisis

Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kwara State have petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged internal party issues, accusing Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of actions capable of undermining the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The petition, dated April 22, 2026, was submitted at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja and addressed to the President and other party leaders. It was presented to journalists by Hon. Olosasa Toyin and jointly signed by Comrade Onimasa Hazmat Ganeey and Alhaji Abdulraheem Alabi, who identified themselves as concerned APC members in the state.

In the petition, the stakeholders accused Governor AbdulRazaq of “de-marketing” the party through what they described as unpopular policies, poor handling of security challenges and alleged alienation of party members and the public.

They also alleged that the governor was plotting to impose the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Danladi Yakubu, as his successor in 2027, warning that such a move could trigger internal crisis within the party.

According to them, efforts by some party leaders to contribute to development in the state have been frustrated, while dissenting voices within the party are allegedly being targeted through legal actions and security agencies.

The stakeholders further claimed that the governor’s actions have affected his popularity, particularly in Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts, describing him as a liability to the party’s electoral chances.

On the reported moves to reopen the 2018 Offa robbery case involving former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the group described the development as politically motivated.

They warned that such actions could generate public sympathy for Saraki and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, potentially affecting the APC’s chances in future elections.

The petitioners urged President Tinubu and the party leadership to intervene in the situation, cautioning against actions that could deepen divisions within the party and weaken its structure in Kwara State.
