Whoopi Goldberg is spilling the tea on her approach to love and why she is perfectly content doing things on her own terms.

During a recent episode of The View, the actress said that while she considers herself single, she is not opposed to occasional romance.

“I do hit and runs when I need it, but I am not married to anybody,” she said. “I don’t have responsibilities.”

Goldberg, who has been married three times, has long been vocal about her independence. She first wed Alvin Martin in 1973, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Alex, before separating in 1979.

Years later, she married cinematographer David Claessen in 1986, though the relationship ended in 1988. Her third marriage to Lyle Trachtenberg began in 1994 and ended the following year.

Since then, Goldberg has had several high-profile relationships, including past romances with actor Ted Danson, who was married to his second wife, producer Cassandra “Casey” Coates. She also enjoyed a relationship with playwright David Schein, though she has not remarried.

. “Whoopi is smart, and what she’s seen in life is worth the trip,” Danson once said of Goldberg, per PEOPLE. “One of the first nights we were together in Berkeley, I walked down Telegraph Avenue with her, and it was like walking with royalty. I’m an actor, and I’m susceptible to jealousies and not wanting to be part of someone’s entourage, but I basked in the love that people poured on her.”

“I don’t want to live with anybody,” she said in a recent interview. “I have lots of people that I love, but I don’t need them living with me.”

Despite her stance, Goldberg says she is on great terms with all of her exes. “There’s nobody that I absolutely hate,” she shared, adding that friendship has remained possible even after the romance died.
