Sam Asghari is speaking about Britney Spears following her recent arrest.
During an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the model and actor shared his thoughts on the pop star’s situation after she was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence in Ventura County, California.
Asghari, who was married to Spears from 2022 until their divorce was finalized in 2024, said he believes people should show compassion when public figures face personal setbacks.
“When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that,” he said during the interview. “Everyone deserves privacy.”
Spears, 44, was arrested on March 4 after authorities said her vehicle was reported for driving erratically at a high rate of speed. According to the California Highway Patrol, officers observed signs of impairment during a traffic stop and conducted field sobriety tests before placing her under arrest.
She was released early the following morning while the investigation continues.
Asghari also spoke about the intense media attention surrounding Spears over the years and suggested the scrutiny can make difficult moments even harder.
“I hope the press has learned from the past,” he said. “Give her the privacy that she needs.”
Asghari also compared Britney’s difficult past to the situation in Iran. “And, in a way, not comparing the situation whatsoever, she was also oppressed by many people that took advantage of her and sort of had the same experience as women do in Iran,” he told Morgan. “And that’s as someone that’s an advocate for women’s rights and wants freedom of speech and wants freedom for everybody, it was hard to believe and hard to see that someone in America was being oppressed.”
Spears and Asghari began dating in 2016 and married in June 2022 before separating the following year. Despite their split, he said he wishes her well. “People grow apart,” he added.
