Lil Nas X is seeking an alternative legal path as his felony battery case moves forward in California.

The 26-year-old performer, born Montero Lamar Hill, appeared in court in Van Nuys, California, on March 12. During the hearing, his attorney asked the judge for additional time to pursue a possible diversion program that could redirect the case away from a traditional trial.

According to reports from the courtroom, the judge approved a brief delay and scheduled the case to return on April 6 while the legal team prepares the motion.

Outside the courthouse, Lil Nas X briefly addressed reporters and shared a message for fans.

“All I wanted to say is to my fans, I really love and I miss you, and I appreciate your support so much,” he said. “I can’t wait to be back hugging you guys.”

The charges stem from an August arrest after police responded to reports that the “Old Town Road” singer was behaving erratically along Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Authorities allege that when officers arrived, the artist used force that resulted in injuries to three police officers. Lil Nas X has denied the accusations and previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
