Kevin Spacey is pushing back against claims about a diagnosis connected to his stay at a rehabilitation facility.

The actor addressed the issue while testifying in a Santa Monica courtroom during an ongoing legal dispute tied to House of Cards. The case involves Media Rights Capital, the production company behind the Netflix series, and centers on financial losses connected to the show’s final season after Spacey was removed from the project.

During his testimony, Spacey discussed treatment he received at The Meadows, a rehabilitation center in Arizona, where he checked in following public allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017.

Court records referenced during the trial indicated that Spacey had been diagnosed with sexual compulsive behavior. The actor told the court he does not agree with that description.

“I only found out later that they had in fact diagnosed me as sexually compulsive,” Spacey said. “I can’t professionally dispute that, but I can personally dispute it.”

Spacey also claimed the facility later encouraged him to embrace the label publicly.

“It was very much obvious they wanted me to be a sex addict,” he said.

The actor testified that he believed he was ready to continue working on the show before the controversy intensified. A psychiatric expert called by the production company disagreed, telling the court Spacey would have struggled to fulfill his responsibilities.
