Harvey Weinstein is speaking publicly about his time behind bars.
In a new interview published March 10 by The Hollywood Reporter, the former film producer described life at New York City’s Rikers Island jail as lonely and difficult. Weinstein, 73, said daily interactions are limited to prison staff.
“I just speak to the guards. And the nurses,” he said. “That’s the extent of my socializing here.”
Weinstein, who has been held at the facility while awaiting another trial, said the environment feels isolating and dangerous.
“There’s no socializing in my wing,” he explained. “Because it’s Rikers Island and it’s hell.”
He also compared his time there with earlier stays at state correctional facilities, recalling a different experience while housed at Wende and Mohawk Correctional Facilities.
“I got up in the morning, I had breakfast, I saw friends, I spoke to people,” Weinstein said. “We all watched TV together.”
According to Weinstein, he has asked to return to a state prison but has been kept at Rikers while prosecutors prepare for his upcoming case.
Weinstein was convicted in New York in 2025 of a criminal sex act tied to a 2006 incident involving a television production assistant. He is also serving a separate 16-year sentence after a rape conviction in California.
He is expected to face another trial related to additional allegations.
