Gunplay Reflects on Strained Relationship With Rick Ross: We’re Not Close!

Gunplay is opening up about the breakdown of his relationship with Rick Ross and the Maybach Music Group.

During a recent interview with M3S3 TV, the rapper spoke candidly about a period in his career when he felt the label’s support had disappeared just as he expected things to move forward.

“Everybody was a group effort,” Gunplay said. “When it was Gunplay’s turn, it was crickets.”

The 46-year-old artist, who helped found the rap group Triple C’s, said he believed he had strong music ready but struggled to secure the resources he felt were needed to push his career further.

“I got hit records,” he said. “Nobody’s giving me a budget, nobody’s doing nothing.”

Gunplay explained that the lack of backing left him questioning his next move at the time.

“What you want me to do? Get another hit record and never get no money?” he said. “Or go back in the streets and tap these pockets like I had to do?”

Looking back, he called the moment “literally a cry for help.”

Gunplay also addressed his current relationship with Rick Ross, admitting they are no longer close.

“I ain’t going to lie,” he said. “Not really as of lately. Nah.”

The rapper signed with Maybach Music Group in 2012 and released his debut solo album, Living Legend, in 2015.
